Tåkern NaturreservatBy Newkirk Johnson View of the Tåkern Naturreservat from the Hov lookout tower in Östergötland (about 10 kilometers south of Vadstena). Tåkern became a formally protected nature reserve in 1975, and provides some of the highest quality bird habitat in all of Northern Europe -- nearly 300 bird species utilize Tåkern! In this photo, the small village of Sandby can be seen in the distance beyond the lake. Sandby was where my great great grandfather Johan Hofstedt was born and raised. |
