Female CEOs make 1700 SEK less than male
Female CEOs in Sweden are still being paid much less than their male counterparts. As a matter of fact 1700 SEK less a month. That’s almost $270. “And nothing is happening,” says Annika Elias, chairwoman of Ledarna (the Swedish Organization for Managers). The median monthly income for a CEO in Sweden is 36 500 SEK ($5,789). CEOs in bigger cities make more, just as employees in general do.

Every other 12-year old in makeup
In Sweden every third girl in the ages 10-12 uses makeup in school. Of the 12-year olds it’s even more common – every other 12-year old girl goes to school wearing makeup. All according to a survey done by Lilla Aktuellt, where 2 800 girls that age answered questions about makeup. The average for girls using makeup is 36%, with 57% among the older girls (meaning 12 years old).

Sorsele has the best 9th graders
The smartest 9th graders in Sweden can be found in Sorsele municipality in Västerbotten. At least according to a newly published report by SKL—Sveriges kommuner och landsting (Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions)—where all municipalities were compared. Sorsele was followed by Essunga in Västra Götaland and Bjurholm. Topping the list of Best in Math, however, is Danderyd.

Noomi awarded

Rapace won in a group full of talented women: Natalie Portman (for her part in “The Black Swan”), Emma Watson (for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”) and Helena Bonham Carter (for “The King’s Speech”). The film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was chosen Best Thriller, winning over other films such as “Shutter Island” and “The Black Swan.” The winners are chosen by the readers of Empire magazine.

Juholt’s girlfriend in trouble
Newly appointed leader of the Social Democratic Party, Håkan Julholt, has already been thrust into the limelight in a not so good way. His girlfriend, Åsa Lindgren, has been convicted of fraud. It’s reported she has defrauded a total sum of 45,908 SEK ($7,228) from the air company Tui Fly Nordic, where she was employed, on eleven separate occasions. When her employers discovered the fraud, they fired her. Toward the end of 2007, Lindgren (who admitted to the crime) was fined 9,000 SEK ($1,417). Juholt has told Swedish press that the crimes took place in the beginning of the couple’s relationship. “I told her she has to admit to her crime and accept her punishment like an adult,” he said. “She committed a crime, she admitted to it, and she has paid for it and I’ve forgiven her.” Lindgren herself doesn’t want to talk about it. Lindgren’s job at Tui Fly Nordic was to ensure that customers were compensated for lost luggage, but while doing this she filed faulty information, wrote fake letters on behalf of fake passengers, and thus reimbursed by the company.
