Nato applications in June for Finland and Sweden?
Finland's decision on NATO will come within a few weeks, according to the country's Prime Minister Sanna Marin, who has just visited Sweden. "I think our process will be fast," she said at a press conference in Stockholm during the visit. She, as well as the Swedish Prime Minister, pointed out during the meeting that there is a completely new security situation in Europe since the war in Ukraine began. Marin also pointed out that Finland and Sweden make decisions independently but in close dialogue.
Following the messages from Finland, recent opinion polls and the apparent majority for the decision to become a member in the Riksdag, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson is now said to be striving for a "hasty decision" on the NATO issue. Swedish newspaper SvD is claiming Andersson’s goal could be applying for membership already in June this year.
