Despite several increases of gas prices in Sweden in 2019, they are not the most expensive in the world. The price for a gallon of gas in Sweden on May 20 was $6.61 per gallon, or $1.74 per liter—the common measurement in Europe and Asia.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S. on the same day was $3.19, or 84¢ per liter. Hong Kong is the most expensive at $8.43 per gallon ($2.22 per liter), followed by Iceland, Norway, Monaco and Denmark at approximately $7.44 per gallon ($1.96 per liter). Sweden ranks 15th among the most expensive, placing it at approximately the same level as Finland, France, Holland, Greece and Italy.

The difference between the most expensive and the cheapest gas price is huge: Venezuela, even in its current country crisis, managed to keep the gas price down to a super low 8¢ per gallon (1¢ per liter)—no other country has it so low. After Venezuela is Sudan with 53¢ a gallon and then Iran at $1.10.
