Last year we wrote about moose hunting season, when 300,000 camouflaged Swedes (including the King) migrate into the forests in early fall. This year, roles got reversed as a moose was seen migrating out of the forest … in pursuit of a human near a supermarket parking lot in Vendelsö, south of Stockholm. Probably frightened by hunters, the angry moose ran out of the woods and toward a man who managed to scurry up a nearby lamppost, climbing high enough to avoid the moose that cornered him below and looked up at him. Motorists honked at the moose, eventually scaring it away and allowing the man a narrow escape. Neither the man nor the moose were harmed in the unprecedented event that even the victim is laughing over. But knowing it could have ended differently, the local game wardens have ensured that no moose are still in the area.
