According to tradition, the King held a cabinet meeting per Chapter 5, Section 3 of the Constitution, and publicly announced the title, name, first name and dukedom of the new royal baby:
He is HRH Prince Alexander Erik Hubertus Bertil, Duke of Södermanland.
His given name is Alexander.

Södermanland has had several dukes since the 1700s. It is a diverse county with lakes, forests , agriculture, small and medium-sized towns and island, on the east coast near Stockholm. The provincial flower is the white water lily and provincial animal is the osprey.

The new prince is very close in age to his cousins — Prince Oscar was born to Crown Princess Victoria on March 2, and Prince Nicolas, son of Princess Madeleine, is still a couple months away from his first birthday; Estelle is 4 and Leonore is 2.
