Passengers have been complaining about the horse smell of several new cars of SL’s commuter train in Stockholm. No, the cushions aren’t made of horse hair, and there’s no other evidence that horses have been riding the train, so where is the smell coming from?
Some speculate it could be the eco-friendly cleaning products that were used, which was the case in the past when other new cars arrived with similar smells and complaints.
“We don’t really know where it’s coming from,” said Lovisa Åbom, press officer for SL. The seats themselves are made of allergy proof and flame retardant materials. “We believe it’s a combination of the new air conditioning and the hot, humid weather we’ve been having.”
SL doesn’t know how long the smell will linger, but probably until the weather changes.
