1877: Stockholm’s first tramway opens when Stockholms Nya Spårvägs AB (a company that existed between 1876-1917) puts its first horse-drawn cars in traffic. These horsecars were replaced by regular trams after 1905. After they were introduced in Stockholm, they came to Göteborg in 1879 and Malmö in 1887.

We've covered aspects of the Stockholm tram system in Leif Rosqvist's Walkabout tours of Stockholm, for instance here: Walkabout Tour of Stockholm I ... walk in the city of my youth - The street tram can take you from the shopping districts to Djurgården and Skansen Open Air Museum.

(The Tunnelbana or T-Bana system is Stockholm’s modern and extensive metro system that first opened in 1950. Today it has 100 stations in use - 47 underground and 53 above ground. It is also known for being "the world's longest art gallery" with more than 90 of its stations decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations, engravings and reliefs by over 150 different artists.)
