After 12 years of construction one of Stockholm's most prominent buildings is inaugurated.

1923: Stockholms Stadshus (Stockholm City Hall) is inaugurated, exactly 400 years after Gustav Vasa's arrival in Stockholm. Author and poet, Nobel laureate Verner von Heidenstam and the Prime Minister Hjalmar Branting delivered the inaugurational speeches.
The building, which stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen island, next to Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen and Södermalm, houses offices and conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls, and the luxury restaurant Stadshuskällaren. It is also the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet and one of Stockholm’s main tourist attractions. Construction began in 1911, and the architect was Ragnar Östberg.
