Guess who came to dinner?
An invitation was sent to Margareta Winberg from Lena Ek, Minister for Environment. Winberg was invited for dinner at Rosenbad, the Government Chancellery in preparation for the big environmental conference in Stockholm. The guest who came to dinner was not the one the invitation was intended for, however. Among the other dinner guests were former ministers, diplomats and others who’ve worked with environmental and climate issues and whom Minister Ek wanted to give thanks to. Margareta Winberg, a senior citizen from Sundbyberg, got dressed up and arrived at Rosenbad – where former Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden Margareta Winberg was expected. Wrong Winberg in other words. But Minister Lena Ek didn’t flinch, she asked if Mrs Winberg was hungry and asked her to the table. Ek’s press secretary told daily Dagens Nyheter that Ek thought the mistake “was really amusing”. And Mrs. Winberg herself said: “They were all nice and interesting people, among them Hans Blix (Swedish diplomat and former head of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission).” Winberg left satisfied but tired after the three-course dinner. And the other Margareta Winberg, the former minister, also seems to think it was a fun mistake after all: “My namesake certainly deserves a nice dinner. She had never been on a dinner at Rosenbad, I have.” Lena Ek has also apologized to Margareta Winberg, the former minister, for the mistake.
