Sweden’s smallest house, or cabin really, is for sale in Mellbystrand, in Halland. It measures three square meters (or 32 square feet) and the asking price is 139 000 SEK ($20,600). Realtor Conny Wistrand says the “location is great”. No electricity, no running water and no bathroom – but on the positive side, the cabin is right next to the sea and the sand dunes. And thrown into the deal is a small outside place and a little pantry cupboard.
“You can sit outside and just enjoy or you can go inside and rest a little bit,” Wistrand says in an interview with DN.se. The house is described on the realtor’s website as light and clean with a charming wood floor. A bed that is fixed to the wall makes it possible to sleep over. As late as last year the cabin was sold to Denmarks Radio (the national broadcasting corporation in Denmark), which in turn gave it away as a first prize in a talk show. The Dane who won it liked it a lot, but realized it was located a bit too far away. That’s why the house is yet again on the market. Wistrand believes it is of interest particularly to people who already live in the area. “Perhaps they want something close to the beach, where you can have a grill and store your swim and beach stuff.” He adds that the cabin is really a place you want to enjoy summertime.
