First litter fine in Sweden

The first litter penalty has been handed out in Sweden after a young man kicked a glass bottle so that it broke.

– It happened at Gamla Stadens Torg in Lidköping in front of some watchful policemen. The new law, which went into effect July 10, means the man now has to pay 800 SEK ($120).

“Skräpa ej. Använd papperskorgen.” (Don’t litter. Use the garbage bin). As of July 10, 2011, you will be fined for littering in Sweden. The first perpetrator was a young man in Lidköping who kicked a glass bottle.
