Meet Tati, a beautiful, functional design series that was just awarded magazine Sköna hem’s “Årets möbel 2012” (Furniture of the year 2012). Designed by Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle, named after French filmmaker, comedian and actor Jacques Tati, and inspired by Tati’s character Monsieur Hulot, Tati the coat hanger is beautifully curved and beautifully simple.
When asked by Sköna hem how one gives a piece of furniture character, Broberg and Ridderstråle explained: “We decided to mix warm and cold material (…) and the simple expression led to a strict form with a feminine touch.” Perhaps it is that line that gives not only the coat hanger but the entire Tati family of furniture pieces their clear identity.

“We looked a lot at Jacques Tati’s graphically strong scenography, where he gives modernism a boot, and the name seemed to fit perfectly.” The name has also added humor and joy to the furniture. For more information: Broberg & Ridderstråle
