Patrik Ingelsten scored his league-leading 16th goal of the season to lead Kalmar to a 1-0 win over Djurgården Oct. 24 at Söderstadion in Stockholm.
The victory kept Kalmar in first place, three points ahead of 2006 champions Elfsborg. The Borås side played IFK Göteborg at Ullevi Stadium in Göteborg on Oct. 25. Elfsborg pulled level on points with Kalmar Oct. 21 when it beat Trelleborg 4-1 at home while Kalmar lost 1-0 at Ullevi to Göteborg.
IFK Göteborg is the defending league champion.
Ingelsten struck in stoppage at the end of the first half. The big striker, who earned his first international cap with Sweden earlier in the month, jumped on the rebound of a shot Djurgården goalkeeper Pa Dembo Tourray couldn’t quite handle. He holds a two-goal edge over Halmstad’s Brazilian striker Anselmo in the race for the golden boot, which the league awards to the top scorer each season.
In addition to its three-point lead, Kalmar hold a +4 advantage over Elfsborg in goal difference.
The season has three matches remaining.
