Winner of the 2014 Vasaloppet
The winner is Norwegian and his name is John Kristian Dahl. The Vasaloppet (the Vasa race), the annual 90-kilometer long cross-country ski marathon that occurs every year on the first Sunday of March, took place yesterday. The race is of course inspired by the famous run by King Gustav Vasa in 1520. Winner this year, John Kristian Dahl, is the fourth Norwegian to win the race. Johan Kjölstad cames second, 3 seconds later and last year's winner Jörgan Brink, 5 seconds later came in third.
The winner of the ladies’ class was also a Norwegian; Laila Kveli, who repeated her last year’s victory. 14,611 (a preliminary figure) of the 15,800 registered entries, were at the start of what was the 90th Vasalopp. Dahl’s winning time was 4 hours, 14 minutes, and 33 seconds, Kveli’s was 4 hours, 31 minutes, and 57 seconds.

The race is so popular, some voices at one point suggested the race day as a new National Holiday Vasaloppet, a better national holiday?
