Tobias Hysén must have a craving for egg rolls. The 31-year-old IFK Goteborg striker and captain signed a two-year deal to play for Shanghai East Asia FC. Göteborg announced the transfer Jan. 6 on its Web site. Hysen was the 2013 Allsvenskan Most Valuable Player. Speculation swirled for weeks that Hysén was bound for China, where teams tend to overpay for foreign players. Hysén would be third Swedish player to play in China. George Mourad currently plays for Qindao Jonoon while Daniel Nannskog spent a season with Sichuan Guancheng.

Slow start to silly season
So far, more players have gone than come to Allsvenskan teams as the winter transfer season plods along. The international transfer window opens the week of Jan. 13, which should probably create much more action but through Jan. 6, not much has happened. AIK cut former Swedish international defender Daniel Majstorovic and lost Martin Matumba, who signed with Rizespor in Turkey. Kalmar cut goalkeeper Zlatan Azimovic while Djurgården said goodbye to Sebastian Rajalakso, who is ready to jump to one of two Polish clubs, and Nahir Oyal, who signed with Sanliurfaspor in Turkey. Mikael Dahlberg left Gefle to play for Greek side Apollon Smirnis. Helsingborg watched as 2013 scoring champ Imad Khalili left for Al Shabab FC in Saudi Arabia. Kalmar is one of the few teams to add players, picking up Ole Söderberg from Norwegian side Molde while waiting for former star Cesar Santin to decide whether he wants to return to Sweden when his contract with FC Copenhagen expires or if he wants to go home to Brazil.

Ingesson in at Elfsborg
Elfsborg has named former Swedish international midfielder (and lumberjack) Klas Ingesson as its new head coach. Ingesson replaces Jorgen Lennartsson, who resigned as manager in September. He is one of three coaches that will guide the club in 2014 along with Janne Milan and Petter Westergren. Ingesson joined Elfsborg as a coach in 2013. He rocketed to fame in 1994 during Sweden’s World Cup campaign. He was one of the last Swedish internationals who was a part-time player. During the offseason, Ingesson worked as a lumberjack. Malmo, meanwhile, continues its search for a manager after Rikard Norling jumped ship for SK Brann in Norway. AIK and IFK Goteborg might also be in the market as Andreas Alm and Mikael Stahre reportedly are also targets of Norwegian clubs.

Tampa signs Hammarby midfielder
Christophe Lallet is the latest Swedish player to try his luck in the U.S.. Lallet signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL as a free transfer after three seasons with Hammarby. The NASL is an ersatz second division to MLS, although the league does not have promotion or relegation. Lallet also wants to pursue a music career and said moving to the U.S. could help both his football and his singing.
