Swedish youth, sports, and painkillers
Every fifth sports coach in Sweden let their young ones participate in spite of the fact that they are taking painkillers, according to DN.
“The risks of getting seriously hurt are greater when you do sports and have taken pills,” says Senior Physician and Professor in Pediatrics Claude Marcus. 60 sport coaches for boys and girls’ teams in handball, soccer, and floor hockey were contacted and asked, anonymously, about the use of painkillers. “It sounds objectionable,” says Jesper Sporre Director of Sports for the developmental department at Hammarby’s youth soccer. “I don’t recognize this at all, and was surprised when I read the result. There must to be a sound reason among the coaches.”
