Rolf-Goeran: Sweden's flag bearer in London
Show jumper Rolf Goran Bengtsson will carry the Swedish flag in the Olympic opening ceremony tonight in London. During the Parade of Nations, athletes from each participating country will parade in the Olympic Stadium, preceded by their flag. It is considered a huge honor to be selected as flag bearer. Rolf-Göran Bengtsson is currently considered the highest ranking show jumper in the world.

“It’s a great honor,” he says about being selected flag bearer. “It will be an Olympic memory for life. To carry the flag is something very special.” Explains Stefan Lindeberg, chairman of Sveriges Olympiska Kommitté (SOK or the Swedish Olympic Committee): “Rolf-Göran is an amazing elite sportsman and I think he represents the new view of his sport. He has carried the sport to the highest international level.”
Bengtsson arrived in London on Thursday, and will, apart from carrying the flag during the opening ceremony, also inspect the stables before he returns back home to make final preparations with his horse Casall. Lindeberg says Bengtsson is more than a role model within riding. “Here we have a guy who is ranked first in the world, who has Olympic medals and who works hard. It raises the bar for all athletes.”
