Ola Toivonen, Marcus Berg and Andreas Isaksson, all members of the Swedish national team, felt the pain of defeat as their PSV Eindhoven crashed out of the Dutch Cup Jan. 26 after losing to FC Twente 7-6 on penalties. Joining them was former Allsvenskan star Atiba Hutchison, a Canadian international that played for Osters and Helsingborg.

After the match finished 1-1, it went into overtime and then to the shootout. Toivonen and Berg each scored in the shootout, but Dwight Tiendalli managed to beat Isaksson for the decisive goal.

Not every Swede on the field was sad. Emir Bajrami, who joined FC Twente from Elfsborg last summer, played the entire match. Bajrami also scored on his shot during the shootout. He is the lone Swede to reach the semifinals. Twente faces Utrecht on March 2.

Petter Andersson, Andreas Granqvist and Fredrik Stenman shared the pain of the PSV Swedes. Despite scoring a second-half equalizer, Granqvist and fellow defender Stenman couldn’t prevent Utrecht from knocking their Groningen out of the Cup with a 3-2 loss. Granqvist struck his tying goal three minutes after the interval. Former Halmstad striker Andersson entered the match as a substitute in the 71st minute but was unable to find the net.
