The Sundsvall Dragons continue to hold the top spot in the Swedish Basketball League. The Dragons own the best record in the league at 17-5 and with 14 games left to play, Sundsvall is level on points with Plannja Basket Luleå but has two games in hand on the co-leaders.
The Swedish Basketball League hit the halfway point of its season, and once again the Sundsvall Dragons are the team to beat.

Sundsvall holds the top spot in the league thanks to its high-scoring forward tandem of Liam Rush and Alex Wesby. Rush, an Australian who played university ball in Sydney before turning pro, is the No. 2 leading scorer in the league, averaging 21.7 points per game. Former Temple University standout Alex Wesby is just as hot, averaging 17 points per game.
Wesby was the high scorer Jan. 16 as Sundsvall lost to fourth-place Norrköping Dolphins 99-98 in Norrköping. Wesby poured in 30 points for the Dragon but it wasn’t enough as Randall Hanke sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Dolphins the win. Hanke, a former Providence College star, finished with 22 points.
Plannja moved into a tie on points with Sundsvall with a 91-73 win over Uppsala Jan. 21 in Uppsala. John Rosendahl led Lulea with 22 points while Benjamin Smith led all scorers with 23 points in a losing effort.
The Södertälje Kings hold down the third spot. The Kings are coming off an impressive 95-81 win Jan. 18 over last-place Örebro. League-leading scorer Johnell Smith had 24 points for the Kings while Andrew Pleick had 19 for Örebro. Smith, a University of New Orleans product, is averaging 22 points per game.
