Sunday, November 7, is a date that could live in fame – or heartbreak – for the 2010 Allsvenskan.
After 29 rounds, Malmö and Helsingborg remain deadlocked at the top of the standings, level on 64 points. Malmö holds the tie-breaking edge in goal-difference and if both teams have equal results on Nov. 7, Malmö would take the title.
Malmö needed a second-half offensive surge to put down a pesky Brommapojkarna as it topped the last-place side 4-0 in Bromma on Nov. 1. Malmö scored all four of its goals in the second half with defender Ulrich Vinzents picking up two assists. Daniel Andersson Jeffrey Aubynn, Agon Mehmeti and Dardan Rexhepi notched the goals.
Helsingborg put Malmö in a must-win position with its 4-2 win Oct. 31 over Halmstad. Rasmus Jonsson had a pair of goals for HIF. May Mahlangu and Alexander Gerndt also scored for Helsingborg, which had a 4-0 lead after 66 minutes. Brazilian striker Anselmo had a pair of late goals for Halmstad.

Race for first is only the tip..
The race for first, however, is only the tip of the Allsvenskan iceberg.
Örebro has third place and a spot in the Europa League in hand. ÖSK has 52 points – 12 behind the leaders and eight ahead of current fourth-place side Elfsborg. Fourth place, however, is in precarious hands.
Mjällby, on the strength of its win in Round 29, is just one point behind and could grab fourth place and the final spot in European play. Elfsborg must win to hold its position. Trelleborg also has a mathematical shot at taking fourth place. Tom Prahl’s side has 41 points but has a minus-four goal difference while Elfsborg is at plus-14. Even with a win, coupled with Elfsborg and Mjällby losses, Trelleborg would need to score 19 goals against Örebro, its final day opponent, to claim fourth place.

Relegation zone
At the bottom of the standings, Brommapojkarna cannot do any better than dead last and heads to the Superettan next year. Second-to-last Åtvidaberg, 28 points and -19 goal difference, and relegation spot holder Gefle, 28 points and -13 goal difference, could switch spots if Åtvidaberg wins or draws its final match against AIK and Gefle loses to IFK Göteborg on the seventh. Neither team can climb out of the relegation zone.
Two teams that can finally relax are AIK and Djurgården. Both struggled until late in the second half of the season, with AIK flirting with relegation for much of the year. AIK beat Elfsborg 2-0 in Round 29 to secure its spot in the Allsvenskan in 2011. The defending league champions could still finish in 11th place or one spot above relegation.
Djurgården, which drew 2-2 with Gefle in Round 22, could finish as high as fifth place, with some help from other teams. It would cap a strong comeback from DIF, which started the second half in the relegation zone.
Malmö opened a 10-goal lead over Helsingborg after it beat Brommapojkarna 4-0 Nov. 1 in Bromma. Malmö went into the match needing to win to keep pace with Helsingborg, which beat Halmstad 4-2 on Oct. 31. It was the second-consecutive week in which Helsingborg won before Malmö played and Malmö responded with a win of its own.

Malmö 4, Brommapojkarna 0
BROMMA – Malmö overcame a sluggish first half and a desperate BP, scoring four times in the second half to cruise to a 4-0 win over Brommapojkarna Nov. 1 at Grimsta IP. Dardan Rexhepi, who entered the match with 13 minutes left to play, made the most of his time, picking up a goal and an assist. Ulrich Vinzents had a pair of assists while Jeffrey Aubynn, Agon Mehmeti and Daniel Andersson all scored. The loss sends BP down to the Superettan next year.

Helsingborg 4, Halmstad 2
HALMSTAD – Rasmus Jonsson scored twice to lead Helsingborg to a 4-2 win over Halmstad Oct. 31 at Örjans vall. Jonsson scored in the 16th and 66th minutes, sandwiching goals from May Mahlangu and Alexander Gerndt. Brazilian striker Anselmo scored twice in the waning minutes for Halmstad.

Örebro 2, Göteborg 1
ÖREBRO – Nordin Gerzic scored in injury time to give Örebro a 2-1 win over IFK Göteborg Nov. 1 at Behrn Arena. Seconds after Gerzic tallied, Stefan Selakovic scored for Göteborg. Astrit Ajdarevic put Örebro in front when he scored at the 65-minute mark.

Mjällby 2, Åtvidaberg 1
SÖLVESBORG – Mjällby kept its chances for a spot in Europe alive with a 2-1 win over relegation-bound Åtvidaberg at Strandvallen. Markus Ekenberg scored the decisive goal three minutes from time. Paulus Roiha put AFF in front after six minutes. Adam Berner notched the equalizer for MAIF in the 64th minute. Mjällby pulled to within one point of fourth-place Elfsborg for the final spot in European competitions.

AIK 2, Elfsborg 0
SOLNA – AIK breathed a sigh of relief after its 2-0 win Oct. 31 over Elfsborg at Råsunda Stadium. The win guarantees the 2009 championships would remain in the Allsvenskan next season despite toying with relegation all year. Mohamed Bangura scored once and assisted on Victor Lundberg’s goal to lead AIK to the win.

Trelleborg 3, GAIS 1
GÖTEBORG – Trelleborg moved into sixth place and within three points of a European spot with a 3-1 win over GAIS Oct. 30 at Gamla Ullevi Stadium. GAIS took the lead when Jonas Lindberg scored in the 27th minute and the lead held for 50 minute when Kristian Haynes scored the first of his two goals in the match. Haynes put TFF in front for good in the 84th minute while Magnus Andersson scored just before the final whistle.

Häcken 3, Kalmar 1
KALMAR – BK Häcken signed its contract for the Allsvenskan next year with a 3-1 win over Kalmar Oct. 31 at Fredriksskans. Johan Bertilsson put Kalmar in front after six minutes, but an own goal pulled Häcken level 10 minutes later. Häcken took over in the second half as Mathias Ranégie scored twice – both coming on passes from Brazilian midfielder Vinicius) – to lead the Göteborg side to the win. Ranegie now has 11 goals.

Djurgården 2, Gefle 2
GÄVLE – Djurgården blew a pair of 1-goal leads before settling for a 2-2 draw Oct. 31 with Gefle at Strömvallen. Christer Youssef put DIF in front after six minutes. Jakob Orlov tied the match nine minutes after the interval. Kennedy Igboananike put DIF back on top in the 74th minute but a last second own goal gave Gelfe a share of the points.
