The quest of the 2010 Damallsvenskan champions for an unbeaten season came to an end Oct. 10 when Malmö lost on the road at Tyresö.
Former Umeå IK and St. Louis Athletica striker Madeleine Edlund scored the lone goal of the match, sending the club-record 2,219 fans into a frenzy. Edlund tallied with 10 minutes left to play in the match. She scored on a volley off a pass from Elin Ekblom Bak.
“It was very nice to get that goal,” Edlund said. “I have had problems scoring on shots like that, so I was very happy I scored.”
Tyresö head coach Tino Katsoulakis went into the match with a simple game plan of marking Malmö and Damallsvenskan leading scorer Manon Melis out of the match. He gave the assignment to Lisa Klinga and she made sure Melis never found the goal.
Tyresö is in its first season in the Damallsvenskan. The victory moved the newcomers into fourth place and the final spot for European play.
The Damallsvenskan season ends Oct. 16.
