It is up to the king to decide whether anyone who marries into the Swedish royal family should be offered a royal title. With just one month until the wedding of his son Prince Carl Philip to Sofia Hellqvist, King Carl XVI Gustaf has announced a decision on the bride's title: She will be Princess Sofia of Sweden as of their wedding day on June 13, 2015.

Sofia, who grew up in Sweden and studied at the Institute of English and Business in New York, was also a model. In 2010, she co-founded the non-profit organization Project Playground, a center for abused and orphaned children. She will step down from her position there and begin work in the royal court.

Also just announced is the foundation the bridal couple set up: If you are wondering what to get a prince and his bride for their wedding day, consider a charitable donation to their new Prince Couple's Foundation, which aims to promote and support children and youth in care and educational settings.

And there's other celebrating going on: Today, May 13, is Prince Carl Philip's 36th birthday. It won't be long before the family is celebrating another birthday, too, as Princess Madeleine's second child is due to be born in early June — an event that might prevent her from attending her brother's wedding. The King and Queen will celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary on June 19.
