A new exciting trio will make the music for the opening of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, according to SVT.

“It’s fun and inspiring,” Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson said. The two former Abba members will join forces with the Swedish House and DJ star Avicii in time for the contest, which will be held in Malmö on May 18.
Björn and Benny have written the song “We Write the Story”, which is being presented and performed by Avicii as the opening number.

“It’s a very beautiful and good piece, which will bring happiness to many,” says Martin Österdahl, executive producer for Swedish Television to Swedish media. “We want to connect the success of Swedish music, which began with Abba winning the Eurovision Song Contest nearly 40 years ago, with the Swedish music that’s now popular.”

Björn and Benny call the collaboration “inspiring”: “We received a nice presentation from Martin Österdahl and Christer Björkman about Swedish Television’s vision for the contest, which led to the commission to write a piece about understanding and the spirit of community in collaboration with Avicii,” they said.
Also according to SVT, everyone involved agreed right away, even though the Abba stars have yet to meet Avicii who is currently touring.

Avicii’s real name is Tim Bergling and he is, at age 23, one of Sweden’s greatest international stars at the moment, with hits like “Levels” and “Silhouettes”, which have filled dance floors all around the world, as part of the Swedish house music boom. Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson need no further presentation – they are of course two of Sweden’s most successful artists and songwriters in history, and have with Abba sold over 400 million records, making the band the greatest Swedish music export ever.
