One of the biggest film festivals in Spain, Valladolid International Film Festival, is concentrating on Swedish film this year with a line-up of 34 Swedish films, over 25 Swedish guests, one world premiere, books, seminars and a co-production forum. The festival takes place now, between October 22 – 29, and is a collaboration with Svenska Filminstitutet (the Swedish Film Institute).

“Spain has been a relatively strong market for Swedish film for quite some time,” says Pia Lundberg, director of Svenska Filminstitutet’s foreign division. Under the title “THE LATEST: 21st Century Swedish Film”, the festival is a collection of films that will point to both width and depth. The festival wants to throw light on new Swedish films, and among the 19 feature films many are made during the past two years. Apart from the films in the all-Swedish selection, there are five Swedish films in the competition selections.
