Clothing brand Dagmar (or really House of Dagmar) was awarded Damernas Värld’s fashion prize “Guldknappen” on August 18. Behind the brand are three sisters: Sofia Malm, Kristina Tjäder and Karin Söderlind. Dagmar was founded in 2005, and is known mostly for its impeccable knitted garments.

“We love and like to enjoy life, and you can see that in everything that we do,” says Sofia Malm in an interview with daily Dagens Nyheter. Karin Söderlind adds: “Since the three of us differ in age, we create timeless clothes that can be worn by many.” On their website, the sisters further describe their brand as “arty chic”.

The name Dagmar is a salute to the women’s late grandmother Dagmar, who was a tailor and inspired them at an early age to design. The jury’s motivation reads:

“The winner of Damernas Värld Guldknappen 2011 attracts a generation of influential women, professional women who appreciate quality and sustainability, but who don’t want to feel dull. From a cardigan inspired by a beloved grandmother, they have managed to develop a complete collection that has conquered the market amongst the Swedish women and now awaits the world. The jury is impressed by how the company has successfully combined eco-friendly thinking with a high fashion image. The thirtieth of the annual award of Guldknappen goes to Dagmar, a modern company that attracts the fashion conscious contemporary woman.”
