The man’s name Max is short for Maximilian, a German-Roman emperor’s name, which means “the greatest.” The reason the name can be found in the Swedish almanac is that King Oscar's wife, Queen Josefina of Leuchtenberg, had Maximiliana as one of her middle names. Before 1950 Max was a rare name in Sweden but today it is one of the 40 most common names.
Max von Sydow (1929- ) was born to a wealthy family in Lund and his name at birth was Carl Adolf von Sydow. He is known as one of Sweden’s greatest actors and has had an illustrious international career, working several times with Ingmar Bergman and Woody Allen. His films include: “Det sjunde inseglet” (“The Seventh Seal”), “The Exorcist,” “Hannah and Her Sister” and “Pelle Erövraren” (“Pelle the Conqueror”).

The name Rikard has its origins in the Germanic name Richart, which is combined with the word “Rik” meaning “caring” and “hart” meaning “hard.” Rikard has increased in popularity since the 1960s and was in the 1980s a very popular name.
Rikard Wolff is a Swedish actor and singer who was born in 1958 and got his breakthrough in the film “Änglagård” (“House of Angels”). Wolff grew up in Gubbängen in Farsta and in Karlstad.

Sigfrid or Siegfried is a German name meaning “victory” and “peace.” The name has been used in Sweden since the 13th century.
Saint Sigfrid was a Benedictine monk and bishop in Sweden, he converted King Olof Skötkonung in 1008. After Ansgar, Sigfrid is revered as the Second Apostle of the North. He died in Växjö in 1045.

Februari 23
Torsten or Thorsten is an Old Norse name consisting of the words "Tor" (the god’s name) and "sten" (stone). The name may mean either tough or thunderbolt. Torsten was one of the characters in Esaias Tegnér’s “Frithiofs saga,” and became popular as a name in Sweden in the 19th century because of that.
Thorsten Flinck (1961- ) is a Swedish actor, movie director and musician, known monstly for playing psychopaths and villains, and also for his outrageous personality both on and off stage. Between 1986 and 2002, Flinck was employed by the Royal Dramatic Theater.
