Environmental organizations in Sweden and Denmark want to make Öresund (the sound that separates the two countries) a protected marine area. The majority of the municipalities in both countries are keen to the idea, and it is now up to the governments to think over the proposal. ”The thought is to preserve the sound long-term. We need mutual regulations in how we handle this,” says Peter Göransson, chairman of the organization Öresundsfonden, who took the initiative.
