Hailed by everyone from New York Magazine to Variety, Lisa Aschan’s debut film, "She Monkeys" (Apflickorna) will be featured at both the San Francisco Film Festival (April 21-May 5) and the Tribeca Film Festival in New York (April 20-May 1).
"She Monkeys" is the fifth and last of a series of low budget first films chosen by competition for the Swedish Film Institute's Rookie Project. It won the Dragon award at the prestigious International Film Festival Gothenburg. Film expert Niclas Goldberg reviewed it here: Review: She Monkeys

The San Francisco Film Festival is organized by the San Francisco Film Society, www.sffs.org, now in its 57th year and America’s longest-running film festival. May 3 at 7:45 p.m., Swedish Spotlight at Newport Beach Film Festival (which runs April 28-May 5) shows Sweden’s 2011 Oscar elect "Simple Simon" directed by Andreas Öhman and featuring Bill Skarsgård, Martin Wallström, Cecilia Fors. 82 min., Swedish with English subtitles. Two Swedish documentaries - 'Love During Wartime,' directed by Gabriella Bier and 'Love Always, Carolyn,' directed by Maria Ramström and Malin Korkeasalo; one short film, 'Coming Out,' directed by Jerry Carlsson - are also screened during the festival, April 20-May 1. Later in May the Music Doc festival comes to New York, bringing quality Nordic music documentaries to the city.
