And the Oscar goes to “Hämnden” or “In a Better World”. It is the third time Denmark nabs an Oscar in the category Best Foreign Film (Denmark won in 1988 with “Babette’s Feast” and in 1989 with “Pelle the Conqueror”).

Susanne Bier, the director of “In a Better World”, was also nominated in 2007 with her film “After the Wedding”, but received no prize then. “In a Better World” stars Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt.

Referring to her statuette backstage Bier, said: "I didn’t know it would be this huge!" Bier’s rehearsed winner’s speech at the Golden Globes didn’t go according to plan, and this time she took a different approach. “I had my speech ready but I didn’t say one sentence from it!” she revealed.

The film will be released in the US on April 1 by Sony Classics.
