Children and youth, ages 5-13 are invited to begin a life-long adventure of language learning at the annual Swedish Camp, August 15-19, 9:30 – noon at the West Riverside Historic Site near Cambridge.
Lead teacher Valorie Arrowsmith says,

“There are four modalities in second language learning, reading, writing, speaking and listening and we try to provide learning activities in all of those areas in our program.”

Since the beginning of Swedish camp in 1990, teachers and assistants have helped participants learn Swedish through writing letters, and using vocabulary in games, songs, and raps. Speaking happens through the “Phrase of the Day,” when campers ask and answer questions while a “secret counselor” pays attention to see who speaks the most Swedish. Reading and listening happen during the language lessons. Active games such as Kubb, a Viking throwing game and Brännbol, a Swedish game similar to softball, are also part of the camp program.

The West Riverside Historic site is located one mile west of Cambridge and then one mile north on County Road 14.
