Congrats to former Pastry chef Emma Bengtsson, who took over in the summer after executive chef Marcus Jernmark left the classic New York establishment. She's the only female chef in New York with two stars and shares the honor with just one in the United States; San Francisco's Dominique Crenn of Atelier Crenn.

Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin guides told Bloomberg News in a phone interview he found Aquavit's second star particularly encouraging "[Chef Emma Bengtsson] was able to show she had a great technique and knowledge of food and was able to motivate the team," Ellis said. "She hit the ball out of the park."
