A Contemporary Circus Festival
The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, which primarily serves the New York University community mission, has incorporated an increasing amount of circus content into its public programming. This month it has timed a new festival, Circus Now: International Contemporary Circus Exposure 2015, to coincide with the annual membership conference of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, held each January in New York. Different artists will perform all weekend, including Sweden’s Cirkus Cirkör on Saturday, January 10, 2015. Pushing the boundaries of the definition of “circus,” Cirkus Cirkör is Scandinavia's leading performing circus company within the contemporary circus art form. Based in Sweden, Cirkör, which began in 1995, has toured and been praised around the world. The company has also been influential in establishing new schools and training courses for aspiring contemporary circus artists in Scandinavia.
