On October 24, the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia hosted its first ever meatball contest, inspired by the museum's current exhibit on Swedish food, Go Swedish! Smörgåsbord and Beyond.
Amateurs and professionals alike were invited to participate, and in total there were 22 amateur contestants and seven restaurants in the competition serving up Italian, Swedish, Spanish, Vietnamese and Greek meatballs.
The amateur winners, who were selected by the restaurants, were Mary Lombardi, a local South Philadelphian, and Kristina O'Doherty, ASHM board member.
The people's choice for best professional meatball was Villa di Roma, a long standing favorite family restaurant in South Philadelphia's Italian Market.
A wonderful and delicious time was had by all and we hope everyone comes again next year!
