Polarn O. Pyret opens in Greenwich.
Polarn O. Pyret, the Swedish children’s clothing company, had its grand opening in Greenwich, CT, on September 22, almost a year to date after they began their American e-commerce.
Attractively located on the fashionable Greenwich Avenue, the store – filled to the brim with colorful clothes for children age infant to 12 as well as some maternity wear – is pleasing and light. Jennifer Athanason, Managing Partner and US Master Franchisor for the brand, said that their first year of web sales had gone well, and that they have high hopes for their Greenwich store:
“It’s an affluent town and many people already know the brand from their travels. And for those who come for the first time and see the clothes and touch them and feel the quality… well, they love it!”
Like much of Scandinavian made children’s clothes, Polarn O. Pyret has little bells and whistles. The design is practical and the approach is fun. Though most Swedes might think of striped long johns when they hear the name, today Polarn O. Pyret has branched out and features raincoats with beluga whales, flower velour dresses and hot pink slim fit jeans. Most of the stuff, but not all, is unisex.
Mari Strömqvist, Coordinator Abroad Markets, had flown in from Stockholm to be present at the opening.
“You can tell that there’s a heart and soul in everything made by Polarn O. Pyret. Quality, function and design is our motto and letting children be children has been our concept from the beginning (1976) and that concept still works. The clothes are simple yet durable and the colors are bright and fun.”
At the first opening - for 'Swedish friends and family' in the area - there was a little smorgasboard with Swedish meatballs, lingonberry, and gravlax and Swedish cider. The store also sports a BRIO train table, making shopping for little ones a breeze.
“I was poached here from another store,” said Assistant Store Manager Minna Lindholm. “I think this is a fantastic undertaking. We have a wonderful international clientele. I appreciate the great quality and the quirky design. I was born in Finland and remember younger family members wearing Polarn O.Pyret design from Sweden.”
