A group of seven talented and driven performing artists and directors from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Faroe Islands have joined to form the new Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC)
Watch out for the new Scandinavian American Theater Company (SATC) in New York! A group of seven talented and driven performing artists and directors from Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Faroe Islands who make the Big Apple their home, have joined forces to stage innovative productions of Scandinavian classics, as well as to introduce contemporary Scandinavian playwrights to the stages of New York.
“This is something we always talked about doing,” says Vigdis Hentze Olsen, a New York-based dancer/choreographer/actress from the Faroe Islands. “Then one night over a bottle of wine we decided the time had come, and the next day we had our first meeting.”
The first play, “Miss Julie” by Swede August Strindberg, will take place at Scandinavia House in June of next year. Why that play?
“It has a small cast and doesn’t need a great many props,” says Lisa Pettersson, a Swedish-American actress.
There is also a staged reading planned for next May, directed by Swede Anders Cato (who is otherwise not affiliated with the group).
“And then next fall,” Pettersson continues, “we will do a contemporary Danish play. I can’t say which one yet, though.”
