Bergman retrospective in Berkeley

The Year of Bergman 2018 celebrates the rich legacy of Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday on July 14, 2018.

Bergman 100: A Tribute to Liv Ullmann is a retrospective of Ingmar Bergman’s films at Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive on February 1-24. The festival kicks off with an in-person appearance by Bergman’s longtime muse Liv Ullmann on February 1 and 3. Ullmann (1938 - ), an acclaimed Norwegian actress who acted in many movies in Sweden, Europe, Canada and the U.S. and has more recently directed five movies, appeared in 10 Bergman movies including Persona (1966), The Passion of Anna (1969), Cries and Whispers (1972) and Autumn Sonata (1978).

The movies are screened at the Barbro Osher Theater, named after Sweden’s Honorary Consul General in San Francisco, which was inaugurated in early 2016 with another Bergman classic, The Seventh Seal, chosen by the consul.
